Raise the engagement floor, do not lower it
27.9% of French Instagram creators clear 3%, the highest of the markets measured. A floor set for another market is not selective here.
France market study · 2026
Using Click Analytic's own database of 400M+ creator profiles, we counted every one of the 374,395 French creator accounts above 10,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube and measured how they actually perform.
Which platform reaches French audiences, what real engagement and view counts look like at each size, how domestic French YouTube is compared with French TikTok, and how much of the market has already worked with brands. Every figure below has its own chart, data table and source line.
This report maps the French creator market across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube from Click Analytic's own creator database. It is a count, not a survey.
We identified every creator account with at least 10,000 followers, or subscribers on YouTube, whose location resolves to France, then measured follower size, creator gender, audience location, engagement rate, average views, posting activity, follower growth, brand-deal history, verification and the intersection of the quality filters across all 374,395 of them.
The three platforms were measured in separate runs, Instagram first and TikTok and YouTube later, all within September 2026. Accounts are counted per platform, so 374,395 is a count of creator accounts rather than of people. Nano accounts between 1,000 and 10,000 followers are counted separately and excluded from every total and share here.
Nine findings from the data, starting with the two that make France unusual.
The French creator market in numbers. Each finding has its own link, so a single statistic can be cited on its own.
27.9% of French Instagram creators clear a 3% engagement rate, ahead of every other market studied. The median at 10K to 50K followers is around 1.3%.
7,198 French Instagram accounts, the highest six-figure rate of the 10 markets measured. France leads on both attention and reach.
266,042 accounts against 88,385 on Instagram, the most TikTok-weighted market we have studied. The nano bench is deeper still at 2,075,179 accounts.
72.0% of French YouTube channels keep 40% or more of their audience in France, against 62.6% on TikTok. Language does the work.
34,975 accounts. That is the 7th highest of the 10 markets measured, below Sweden, despite France leading on engagement.
87.8% of the largest creator pool in France shows no detected branded content. It is the deepest uncontested pool in any market we have measured.
Only 39.7% of French YouTube channels posted last month, against 63.2% on Instagram and 47.9% on TikTok.
65.2% of French YouTube channels are run by men. Instagram is 53.9% women and TikTok 52.6%.
2.4% of the TikTok base combines a domestic audience, a 3% engagement rate and six-figure average views. On YouTube it is 567 channels.
France holds 374,395 creator accounts with 10,000 or more followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and 2,624,987 more between 1,000 and 10,000.
TikTok is the dominant platform at 266,042 accounts, 71.1% of the base, against 88,385 on Instagram and 19,968 on YouTube. No other market we have measured is this TikTok-weighted.
The bench under TikTok is enormous: 2,075,179 French accounts sit between 1,000 and 10,000 followers, 7.8 for every account already above the line. Instagram holds 6.0 and YouTube 1.1, so French YouTube has almost no pipeline underneath it.
On Instagram alone France is 6th of the 10 markets measured at 88,385 accounts, slightly behind Germany at 97,105. 75.0% of French Instagram creators sit between 10K and 50K followers and 687 accounts have passed a million.

Subscribers on YouTube. Bands are exclusive and sum to the platform base.
If the plan is TikTok-first, France is the deepest market in this study by a wide margin. If it is YouTube-first, it is one of the thinnest relative to its size.
Next, the number that makes French YouTube worth the trouble.
72.0% of French YouTube channels keep at least 40% of their audience in France, against 57.8% on Instagram and 62.6% on TikTok.
French YouTube is the most domestically concentrated platform of any market and any platform in this study. Long-form video in French does not travel the way a Reel or a TikTok does, and the figure shows it: 56.8% of French channels hold 60% or more of their audience in France.
Instagram is strong too. France ranks 4th of 10 on the Instagram 40% threshold, ahead of Germany at 40.3% and the United Kingdom at 41.3%. Measured across the whole Instagram market, the median French creator holds 39% of their audience in France.
TikTok is the leak. Francophone audiences in Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and West Africa are counted as outside France here, and on a platform built for cross-border distribution that shows up as a much lower domestic share.
For a France-only campaign, YouTube and Instagram deliver domestic audiences far more reliably than TikTok does. For a francophone campaign, the TikTok figure is an understatement rather than a warning.
Next, the two numbers France leads the study on.
27.9% of French Instagram creators clear a 3% engagement rate, the highest share of the 10 markets Click Analytic has measured.
55.1% exceed 1%, 27.9% exceed 3% and 17.2% exceed 5%. The lowest market measured, Colombia, sits at 14.5% on the same threshold.
By size band the median runs around 1.3% at 10K to 50K followers, around 1% at 50K to 250K and around 1.1% above 250K. Across the whole market as one population, the median is around 1.1%. Unusually, French engagement barely decays with size: the 250K band is close to the 50K band rather than well below it.
TikTok and YouTube are different instruments and the numbers say so. 91.9% of French TikTok accounts clear 3% and 56.7% of YouTube channels do, so the same threshold is selective on Instagram, moderately selective on YouTube and close to meaningless on TikTok.
| Engagement rate | Instagram (accounts) | Instagram (share) | TikTok (accounts) | TikTok (share) | YouTube (accounts) | YouTube (share) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1%+ | 48,701 | 55.1% | 262,217 | 98.6% | 17,559 | 87.9% |
| 3%+ | 24,628 | 27.9% | 244,506 | 91.9% | 11,324 | 56.7% |
| 5%+ | 15,203 | 17.2% | 206,145 | 77.5% | 5,892 | 29.5% |
Engagement is calculated per platform, so a rate compares within a platform only. Thresholds are cumulative.
| Follower size | |
|---|---|
| 10K-50K followers | 1.32% (range 1.29% to 1.35%) |
| 50K-250K followers | 1.03% (range 1.00% to 1.06%) |
| 250K+ followers | 1.09% (range 1.06% to 1.12%) |
Found by binary search over counting queries, so each median is a narrow range. Round it before quoting it.
A flat 3% floor across three platforms keeps 27.9% of French Instagram, 56.7% of YouTube and 91.9% of TikTok. It is three different filters wearing one number.
And reach, where France also leads.
8.1% of French Instagram creators average 100,000 or more Reel views, the highest six-figure rate of the 10 markets measured.
45.2% average at least 10,000 views and 415 accounts average a million. The median French Instagram creator averages around 8,500 views per Reel.
On TikTok the median runs around 1,500 views at 10K to 50K followers, around 4,500 at 50K to 250K and around 29,000 above 250K. French YouTube runs around 1,500, around 6,500 and around 33,000 across the same bands, and reaches 7.7% at the six-figure threshold.
France leading on both engagement and reach is worth stating plainly, because the two usually trade off against each other. Here they do not.
| Average views per video | Instagram (accounts) | Instagram (share) | TikTok (accounts) | TikTok (share) | YouTube (accounts) | YouTube (share) |

| 250K+ followers | 29,000 | 33,000 |
Bisected and rounded to two significant figures. Treat each as a benchmark, not an exact value.
Divide any quoted fee by the median views for that creator's size band to get a cost per thousand views. French YouTube out-reaches French TikTok at every band measured, which is not what most media plans assume.
A view only counts if the account is still posting, and French YouTube has a problem there.
63.2% of French Instagram accounts posted in the last 30 days, against 47.9% on TikTok and only 39.7% on YouTube.
12,042 of 19,968 French YouTube channels have gone quiet for a month or more, the weakest activity rate on any platform in this study. A French YouTube shortlist built without a recency filter is mostly a list of archives.
Growth follows the same split. 10.6% of French Instagram creators grew by at least 20% over six months and 7.6% on TikTok, but only 3.5% on YouTube. 2,002 French Instagram accounts doubled their following.
France ranks 3rd of 10 on Instagram growth, ahead of Sweden and behind Mexico.

| +100% | 2,002 | 2.3% | 5,292 | 2.0% | 80 | 0.4% |
Thresholds are cumulative: an account that grew 100% is also counted at 50% and 20%.
Filter French YouTube on recency before you look at anything else. Six in ten channels above 10,000 subscribers have not published in a month, and none of the reach figures apply to them.
And the commercial question, where the most engaged market is not the most worked one.
39.6% of French Instagram creators have run branded content, 34,975 accounts, the 7th highest rate of the 10 markets measured.
That is above the global Creator Economy Report figure of 28.8%, but below Sweden at 48.8% and the United Kingdom at 48.3%. France leads this study on engagement and reach while sitting mid-table on brand-deal history, which is an unusual combination and a straightforwardly good one for a brand arriving now.
TikTok carries the opportunity at scale. 12.2% of French TikTok accounts show detected branded content, leaving 233,671 with none. That is the largest pool of established creators without visible brand partnerships in any market in this study.
The funnel below is the number to keep. On TikTok, combining a domestic audience, a 3% engagement rate and six-figure average views leaves 6,299 accounts, 2.4% of the base, measured directly with its own query rather than multiplied out of the rows above it.
| Platform | Has run branded content | Share of the platform base | No branded content detected |
|---|---|---|---|
| 34,975 | 39.6% | 53,410 | |
| TikTok | 32,371 | 12.2% | 233,671 |
| YouTube | 3,568 | 17.9% | 16,400 |

| YouTube | 2,656 | 13.3% | 17,312 |

| 40%+ of the audience in France | 166,551 | 62.6% |

| Averaging 100K+ views per video | 9,410 | 3.5% |
| All three at once (measured directly) | 6,299 | 2.4% |
Each filter is counted on its own against the same base. The last row is a single query for all three together, not the product of the rows above it.
France is the clearest first-mover case in this study: the most engaged audiences we measure, the highest six-figure reach, and 233,671 TikTok creators nobody has briefed yet.
Every figure above, side by side, in one table.
French Instagram and TikTok are close to even on creator gender. YouTube is not: 65.2% of French channels above 10,000 subscribers are run by men.
53.9% of French Instagram creators are women, 47,623 accounts, and 52.6% on TikTok. YouTube inverts it, with 13,010 of 19,968 channels run by men.
Creator gender is inferred from the profile. Accounts with no identifiable individual creator, such as brands, shops and media outlets, are outside the measured population rather than counted separately. Audience gender was not published in this study: the filter behind it is unsupported in the measurement API.
| Platform | Women | Share | Men | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 47,623 | 53.9% | 40,762 | 46.1% | |
| TikTok | 139,931 | 52.6% | 126,111 | 47.4% |
| YouTube | 6,958 | 34.8% | 13,010 | 65.2% |
Gender is inferred from the profile. Accounts with no identifiable individual creator are outside the base filter entirely.
If your buyer is female, French YouTube is the thinnest of the three platforms before any other filter is applied. Filter on audience composition rather than on creator gender.
Numbers mean little until you know whether they are high or low.
Every published figure from the French study, as an account count and a share of its own platform base.

Not measured: the metric was not run on that platform in this study. Withheld: measured, but held back while the measurement is reviewed. Every share uses its own platform base (88,385 Instagram, 266,042 TikTok, 19,968 YouTube).
Next, France against the global market.
We compared these French figures against Click Analytic's Creator Economy Report 2026, a separate study of 23.6M creator accounts across 25 markets, snapshot the whole of 2025.
France is well clear of the global benchmark on engagement. The median at 10K to 50K Instagram followers runs around 1.3% against a global 0.80%, which means a French micro-creator engages harder than a global creator with a million followers. Brand-deal history runs 39.6% against 28.8% globally.
The platform mix is where France diverges most. TikTok holds 71.1% of the French base against 67.0% globally and Instagram 23.6% against 25.0%, so France is a more TikTok-weighted market than the world average, not less. French YouTube reaches 7.7% at the six-figure view threshold against a global 11.2%.

Global engagement benchmarks understate France badly. Set the floor against the French median for the size band, or you will reject the best creators in the study.
Here is what that changes about planning a French campaign.
Seven rules for planning influencer campaigns in France, each grounded in a figure above.
27.9% of French Instagram creators clear 3%, the highest of the markets measured. A floor set for another market is not selective here.
72.0% of French YouTube channels keep 40% of their audience in France, against 62.6% on TikTok. Language keeps long-form video at home.
Only 39.7% of French YouTube channels posted in the last 30 days, the lowest activity rate on any platform in this study.
233,671 French TikTok accounts have no detected brand history, the deepest such pool in any market measured.
3% keeps 27.9% of Instagram, 56.7% of YouTube and 91.9% of TikTok. Judge TikTok on views.
France leads this study on both the 3% engagement share and the 100K view share. A French shortlist rarely has to trade one for the other.
The TikTok domestic figure counts only followers in France. Belgian, Swiss, Canadian and West African francophone audiences fall outside it, so read the full country split before discounting a creator.

Click Analytic counts 374,395 creator accounts with 10,000 or more followers located in France across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube: 266,042 on TikTok, 88,385 on Instagram and 19,968 on YouTube, measured in September 2026. Accounts are counted per platform, so a creator active on two is counted twice.
France sets a high bar. The median is around 1.3% at 10K to 50K followers, around 1% at 50K to 250K and around 1.1% above 250K. 27.9% of French creators clear 3%, the highest of the 10 markets measured.
TikTok, and by a long way: 266,042 accounts above 10,000 followers, 71.1% of the French base, against 88,385 on Instagram and 19,968 on YouTube.
It depends on the platform. 72.0% of YouTube channels, 57.8% of Instagram creators and 62.6% of TikTok accounts keep at least 40% of their audience in France. The median French Instagram creator holds 39%.
The median French TikTok creator with 10K to 50K followers averages around 1,500 views per video, around 4,500 at 50K to 250K and around 29,000 above 250K. French YouTube runs higher at every band.
34,975 French Instagram accounts, 39.6% of the market, show at least one detected branded post. On TikTok it is 12.2% and on YouTube 17.9%.
Each figure is the exact result count of a query against Click Analytic's database of 400M+ creator profiles, not a survey and not a sample. Instagram, TikTok and YouTube were measured in September 2026. Medians come from binary search over counting queries and are published rounded.
